DES.ENG.AGE. presents Silicon Souls during the Dutch Design Week at NulZes. A Platform for Creative Technical Collaboration, and techno-conscious discussion What is DES.ENG.AGE.? It is a project that brings ASML engineers together with creative minds from Eindhoven. The goal is to connect the worlds of technology and design, helping to build a stronger creative culture around ASML and in the local area. It also gives ASML employees a chance to take part in hands-on creative projects, learn new skills, both technical and creative to work on projects from start to finish. Most importantly, we aim to support a society where technology is developed with thought and care, shaped by both engineers and artists who consider its impact on people and the planet. What’s the Story Behind “Silicon Souls”? In the past, alchemists dreamed of turning lead into gold. Even Isaac Newton spent years exploring this idea. In recent times, scientists at the Large Hadron Collider managed to do it. However, we believe the real magic is in semiconductors. We take sand and turn it into silicon chips that store information, ideas, and money on them. These chips power everything around us. It’s not just turning matter into something valuable; it’s creating the foundations for whole digital worlds. Since Eindhoven is often called “Europe’s Silicon Valley,” we believe we should lead not only in tech, but also in responsibility. At DES.ENG.AGE. we think that “those who create are responsible.” That’s why Silicon Souls, our contribution to Dutch Design Week, is meant to highlight the deep connection between innovation and ethics where technologists think about their impact, and citizens are part of shaping the digital world. What will “Silicon Souls” look like? We want to show the hidden complexity of the microchip industry in the form of a beautiful and meaningful piece of art, and abstract installation. This project will be built together by ASML engineers and local designers. The artwork will look like a large chandelier, shaped like a cone, hanging from the ceiling. It will be able to move in the x and y directions (and possibly z). It will contain fine sand, which will trickle onto a silicon wafer. As the chandelier moves, it will "expose" patterns of the sand metaphorically tracing the steps of chip fabrication. The polished surface of the cone will reflect a structure of pillars and connections an architecture that could be buildings or the layered structure of a microprocessor. Each layer will represent a story or idea sparking conversation with visitors. We also intend to pay homage to the employees of the industry by incorporating 3D figurines of people who contributed to the project. How Can You Help? We’re looking for engineers who want to volunteer their time and skills. Here are some areas where we need help: o 3d scanning o 3d printing with resin or ceramic slurry o Calculating load bearing capacity of NulZes ceiling and beams o Designing x-y stage that moves a “chandelier” that drips sand o Designing nozzle system for sand o "Wafer stage" design on the ground o Helping Luuk van den Broek (our resident designer) with the cone that that is to be the main structure for the “chandelier” o Help with the woodwork o Connect the piece to the ceiling [TIG welding] o Arrange area for seating o Design and write on the walls o Audio system for explaining the piece (is it a looped speaker or headphones, can it be rented or from ASML borrow) o Record sounds o Build up and install (scenography) from readymade objects o Code movement and experience o Create DUV etched silicon with disengage manifesto message that can be viewed under the microscope o Work as mechanical engineer for integration. o Electronics o Coding o Lighting design [illumination from the inside of the chandelier to project message] o Safety expert o Volunteer to stay at the DDW (Performance to offload sand from printed wafer) We’re also looking for donations to help cover the costs of creating and displaying the artwork.

Psychologist Heleen Terwijn observed that ten-year-olds are fully occupied with fantasies about their future. That curiosity is only partly nurtured at school, while children are all, by nature, broadly interested. During her research, Terwijn developed the idea of bringing children from the receptive age of ten into contact with enthusiastic professionals and interesting fields. Supplementary education is the difference maker for society. Intrinsically driven students and former students are a great asset to society and strengthen it. With Future Expedition, IMC Weekend School brings society into the classroom and vice versa. Guest lessons take students into real-life situations. Students learn to diagnose with a general practitioner, program with an IT professional, put out fires with the fire brigade, debate with an alderman, make judgments with a judge and make reports with a journalist, and so on.

Hi my friends and my colleagues, My name is Cliff Tsai and I am a Cymer employee. Thank you for considering to support Kenya Orphaned Children! This fundraiser is to provide infrastructures to better serve the kids and the staffs in the Overcoming Faith Schools (https://www.tucklets.org/) in Kenya which serve over 900 orphaned children. These schools offer the kids not just an education but a holistic support system. I have known the school founder, Pastor Alice, for several years. Pastor Alice is someone who is filled with love and passion for those children, who were either abandoned on the street or lost their parents but now were taken care through Overcoming Faith Schools. The fund will cover the following recent projects: 1. Mission house: $150,000 USD 2. High school for children with 3 blocks and 3 story houses: $500,000 USD 3. Health center: $300,000 USD

Transforming Lives: Empowering India's children through Education.

A Dojo is a free, volunteer-led, community-based computer club for young people. Anyone aged 7 to 17 can visit a Dojo and learn to code, build a website, or create an app or game. Dojos are a space for kids and teens to explore technology in an informal, creative, safe and social environment. CoderDojo Helmond is a non profit foundation organizing Dojos in the Eindhoven region.

Charity to support accessibility to knowledge and information for everyone.

The difference between rural areas and big metropolitans within China are greater than that of New York and west Virginia. I would like to raise a funding and set up a project to help the children in the less developed areas in China, especially with their education. Donating to a charity organization directly is less transparent, donating to my fund will show the total donated amount in a progress bar. This is the difference between a donation to my funding, and a donation to any charity organization. With this dedicated funding, we will be able to target the real children who need our help most, and really tailed our funding to their specific need. Currently, there are two organization selected in my fund. What I will do next is to contact them and see if they already have projects meeting my criteria. If not, I will discuss with them and pick only ONE organization and set up a dedicated project together, to make sure that the fund is really used for the targeted group of poor children in China. NOTE: This fund was started in 2023 when I was in US. There was a NGO in China that was qualified by Bright Fund. However, Bright Fund does not support any organizations in China mainland since 2024. and this has to be suspended. In 2025, there was new organizations added to support China. so we will have to choose a different organization than the initial one in China. I am deeply moved by the state of women & children in many parts of the world and always find my self feeling blessed that I have always lived such a privileged life to be able to make a difference in any small way that I can. I am setting this fund up to support women around the world. Malala Fund is working for a world where every girl can learn and lead. This I can think will slowly but surely change the world we live in and create better environment for women to live and grow. Other causes such as "Asha for Education" does a lot of work to provide education for underprivileged children. I have also listed other funds that work on various objective to help empower women around the world.

In the U.S., a student’s zip code and the color of their skin often determines if they will complete high school and be prepared for college entrance and completion, which in turn, is a key determinant for later life success as an adult. To make matters worse, the United States is facing its worse teacher shortage since the 1990s, and low-income schools are often disproportionately impacted. As a result, our public high schools are failing these students and need evidence informed practices to more effectively educate their students.

The Education Fund is a collection of innovative nonprofits working in United States and around the world to help improve the quality and accessibility of education. The national nonprofits in our fund address literacy, school readiness, school reform, curricular content development and helping turn around low-performing school. The international organizations focus on building schools and training teachers and developing programs for vocational skills.
